Electronics Policy

Please Note: Oxford School is not responsible for any costs associated with the theft of or damage to electronic devices. Students are strongly encouraged to leave these items at home.

At Oxford school, students are expected to focus their full attention on academic success. Electronic devices such as, but not limited to, cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, and hand-held gaming systems represent a major distraction and students are not permitted to use them during instructional times.

With the introduction of cell phones equipped with cameras and the growing number of students with digital cameras, we also feel it is important for students and parents to understand their rights and responsibilities. Students and parents should be aware that the use of digital cameras and/or camera phones are prohibited in all locker or change rooms, washrooms and classrooms in all Halifax Regional School Board schools.

  • Consequences for violating this policy the first time will be the confiscation of the item/s in question.  It will be returned at the end of the day.
  • Additional violations will require a Parent/Guardian to call the main office to arrange a pick up time.  If the item is not picked up after 7 days, it will be returned to the student.
  • If students refuse to turn over the item/s then a school suspension will incur.

When using digital cameras and/or camera phones off of school property, students should always respect the privacy of others and make sure that the people being photographed give their consent first. It is never acceptable to post pictures on a website or send them by email to a group unless everyone in the picture has seen the picture and consented to it being shared. Digital camera and/or camera phone users should always respect the privacy of others. Photography of individuals without their consent, when and where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy, may be prohibited by law.
